Privacy Policy
Effective October 13, 2026
Xerocracy LLC runs two sites: Xerocracy (xerocracy.co), a platform for music artists, and Bored Lansing (boredlansing.com), a live-music publication for the Lansing area. "We," "us," and "our" mean Xerocracy LLC. "Our sites" means xerocracy.co, Bored Lansing (boredlansing.com), and any related pages, apps, or services we run. This policy explains what information we collect on both sites, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
The short version: we collect only what we need to run our sites. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
What this policy covers
This policy covers xerocracy.co, boredlansing.com, and Xerocracy accounts. It doesn't cover other sites, including the ones we link to.
Information we collect when you visit
When you load a page, our hosting provider receives basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page you asked for. We use this to run the site, keep it secure, and slow down automated abuse. To limit repeated requests, we may briefly store your IP address.
We count page visits on both sites with Vercel Web Analytics. It records the page you viewed, the site that sent you, and general information like browser, device type, and country. It doesn't use cookies and isn't used to identify you. You can opt out on each site: boredlansing.com/analytics-optout and xerocracy.co/analytics-optout. Your choice is saved in your browser, so opt out on each site and in each browser you use.
Information we collect when you have an account
Accounts are open by invitation to artists and the people who represent them. Our sign-in provider, Clerk, handles signing in.
- Account details: your email address, your name if you give it, and the information needed to sign you in. If you sign in with another service, like Google, it shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us. We never see your password.
- Your connection to profiles: which artist profiles you manage.
- Security information: Clerk records sign-in activity, such as the time, device, and IP address, to protect your account.
Information you send to Bored Lansing
When you submit a show, we collect what you enter: the artists, venue, date and time, links, and your email address if you give it. We use your email only to follow up about your submission, and we never publish it. Show details we publish become part of the public listing.
Bored Lansing has no public accounts. Only our own editors sign in to it.
Cookies
We only use cookies our sites need to work: keeping you signed in, and remembering choices you make, like opting out of analytics. Bored Lansing also saves a few things, like festival schedule settings, in your browser's storage on your device. We don't use advertising cookies or cookies that track you across other sites.
Do Not Track. Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. There's no common standard for responding to it, so our sites don't change what they do when they receive one. We don't track you across other sites either way.
Artist profiles and listings
We draft artist profiles from public information: show listings on Bored Lansing (a music publication we run), the artist's own websites and public social media profiles, music service pages, and press coverage. We use automated tools to find and summarize this information, including web search services and AI (Anthropic's Claude). Bored Lansing's show listings and artist descriptions are written the same way. Nothing these tools produce goes public until a person has reviewed it. On Bored Lansing, we review it. On Xerocracy, the artist does: a profile goes public only after the artist has checked it. While a profile is private, only the people who manage it and Xerocracy's administrators can see it.
A profile describes the act: its name, hometown, genre, members, links, show history, and a band photo the artist has approved, credited to the photographer when we know who took it. A profile may name the people in an act as they're publicly credited, the way a show listing or an album's liner notes would.
People under 18. We don't name anyone we know is under 18 on a profile or listing without a parent or guardian's permission. If we learn that someone we've named is under 18, we'll remove their name unless a parent or guardian asks us to keep it.
Xerocracy is in an invitation-only beta. During the beta, we create a profile only for an artist who has agreed to it, and the artist reviews it before it goes public. Once a profile is public, it's public. That's what it's for.
We treat what an artist adds to their profile as the most reliable source about them. We use it to check and improve information we find elsewhere, on Xerocracy and in our publications.
Something wrong, or want it removed? Email webmaster@xerocracy.co with the page and what you'd like changed. This works for Xerocracy profiles and Bored Lansing listings, and you don't need an account. We may ask you to show that you're with the act or are the person described.
How we use information
- To run our sites and your account
- To draft and host profiles, and to publish and maintain listings
- To keep our sites secure and prevent abuse
- To contact you about your account or important changes
- To understand how our sites are used overall
We don't sell or rent your information. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't send your account details, like your email address or sign-in information, to AI services such as Anthropic. We do use AI tools to draft Xerocracy profiles before an artist claims them, and to write and update Bored Lansing's listings and artist descriptions. We also use AI tools to check and improve our own information against what an artist adds to their profile. We may use what an artist makes public on their profile to write about them in publications we run, like Bored Lansing. We only use AI providers whose terms don't allow them to train their models on what we send.
Who we share information with
We use a small number of companies to run our sites. They only get what they need to do their job.
| Company | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts our sites and counts page visits |
| Neon | Stores our database |
| Clerk | Handles sign-in and account security |
| Cloudflare | Stores images |
| Upstash | Stores short-lived data used to prevent abuse |
| Anthropic | Summarizes public information about artists and helps draft profiles and listings |
| Brave and Serper | Search the web for public information about artists |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people from harm, or as part of a sale or merger of Xerocracy LLC. If that happens, this policy still applies to your information.
Our sites link to other services, like Instagram or Spotify. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave our sites.
How long we keep information
We keep your account information while your account is open. When you close it, we delete your account details, except what we need to keep for security or legal reasons.
Closing your account doesn't automatically remove the artist's profile, since other members of the act may manage it. If you want the profile taken down, ask us.
We keep the research and drafts behind an artist's profile or listing for as long as we maintain it. If an artist asks us to remove their profile, we delete the drafts and research behind it too. Published Bored Lansing listings stay as part of the public record, but we'll correct errors in them and remove personal details, like a member's name, when asked.
We keep show submissions, including the submitter's email address, for up to two years. We keep emails about corrections, removals, and identity checks for up to two years, as a record of what we changed and why.
Your choices
- See, correct, or delete your information: email us.
- Close your account: email us. We're working on a way to do this yourself.
- Stop analytics: use the opt-out page on each site.
Age requirement
You must be 18 or older to create an account. Our sites aren't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think we have, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections, limit who can access information, and choose providers with strong security practices. No system is perfect, so we can't promise that information will never be exposed. If a security breach affects your information, we'll notify you as the law requires, and otherwise when we reasonably can.
Where information is stored
We and our providers store information in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We'll post any changes here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we'll tell account holders by email or on their dashboard before it takes effect.
