Tom Rush has recorded since 1962, when he cut a live album at Boston's Club 47 while still a Harvard student. His early recordings introduced Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, and James Taylor to wider audiences. James Taylor told Rolling Stone that Rush was "one of my main influences," and Garth Brooks has named him among his top five musical influences. Rush's guitar-driven folk and blues defined a strand of the 1960s folk revival and extended through the acoustic renaissance of the 1980s and 1990s.
